2/16/2008 Regarding The Mid-Year Budget Cuts Vote

On Friday, the Legislature voted on a bipartisan basis to make budget adjustments totaling $1 billion. My colleagues and I all agree our first priority is to make sure the state can pay its bills and has enough money to get through the rest of this fiscal year.

The proposed cuts to education—if enacted—would have a disastrous impact on our schools and our children. The $4.8 billion in proposed education cuts would not last just a year or two. They will impact our children for a lifetime! These cuts would not heal!
