I am looking forward to joining you this weekend in Los Angeles for the California Democratic Party's 2010 State Convention!
As you may know, Party Chairman Sen. John Burton (Ret.) asked the candidates for statewide office, including State Superintendent of Public Instruction, not to seek the party's pre-primary endorsement this weekend.
I agreed to the Chairman's request and will not be seeking the party's endorsement. But I do hope to speak with as many delegates as possible this weekend about my education agenda and my campaign during this weekend's Convention events. I am working hard to gain every vote possible around the state--including yours.
I hope you will drop by my campaign's information table throughout the weekend at the Convention Center. I will also be attending caucus meetings and hospitality suites, including the California Teachers Association's hospitality suite on Saturday evening.
As Superintendent for Public Instruction, my goal is to ensure that every neighborhood school can have the resources required to provide every student with a high-quality education in a safe and healthy environment.
I want to help prepare our youth for the real world after high school by expanding career and technical education for high school students, protecting college-prep courses and arts and music programs, fighting to reduce the drop-out rate and close the achievement gap, and making sure the management of local school districts measures up to the highest standards of excellence. You can learn more about my agenda on my web site at www.TomTorlakson.com.
I have been honored to have earned the support of people and organizations all across California--including former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin, the California Federation of Teachers, California School Employees Association, California Federation of Teachers, California Labor Federation, State Building and Construction Trades Council, California National Organization for Women PAC, California Young Democrats, California Professional Firefighters, California Nurses Association, Peace Officers Research Association of California, United Food and Commercial Workers Western States Council, and many more.
I want to take what I learned as a science teacher, high school coach, and legislator to the office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction so I can fight each day for our kids and our public schools. I will not rest until our public education system has returned to the top rank in the nation.
P.S. I would be honored if you would join my education team with an endorsement by clicking here. I look forward to seeing you and other delegates this weekend. Feel free to email me at email@example.com if you have any questions.
