Tom believes students need a taste of the working world before they graduate. He has expanded career and technical training for high-school students to ensure every child leaves school with skills they can apply in the real world of a career and college.
- Under Tom’s leadership, California brought its standards for career-technical programs up to date to match teaching with skills students need for jobs now.
- Tom is overseeing California’s new Career Pathways Trust, which will provide $250 million in competitive grants to help schools prepare students for careers and well-paying jobs.
