It's Time To Update the E-Rate Program

torlakson_erate_350.jpgThe educational opportunities and jobs available to our students after they graduate increasingly require the use of high-tech skills and abilities.

But too many students and schools do not have access to the technology and high-speed internet access required to ensure they learn skills they will need to succeed in career or college.

That's why I believe the Federal Communications Commission should update and revitalize the E-rate program to meet the 21st century broadband needs of our schools and libraries.

The internet is amazing and as a teacher working on STEM activities and focus, it is an invaluable tool. Let’s make sure education can keep up with the times. Flipping the classroom strategies give us so many more opportunities to work with our children and provide meaningful learning, but this can’t be done if our students can’t get online, from school AND from home.
